This is a handcrafted maple wood sculpture (for size 60 cm of linden tree) representing Holy Mary holding Baby Jesus in her arms wrapped in a white sheet. The baby clings with its left hand on his mother’s mantle and she, in turn is sheltering Jesus Baby with her body, going to cover it with her mantle closer to her as well.
The technique used for Maria’s dress enhances the movement of the figure resulting in a dynamic scene.
In the lower part of the dress a decoration magnifies the sculpture.
To enrich the representation of Holy Mary with baby Jesus in her arms, two beautiful red roses are decorating her hair.
Roses are an element used for other Marian figures as well, such as “Holy Mary Rosa Mystica”; this to show love and passion. Roses are typical of the month of May, month that since ever was devoted to Holy Mary
