The SHEPHERDS – INTRODUCTION

The shepherds lead their flock to pasture to graze and protect them from the dangers of predators. Their clothing is humble, yet blends harmoniously in color with the Nativity landscape.

When the shepherds receive the glad tidings from the Archangel Gabriel and hear the choir of angels singing praises, they set off toward the manger with their flocks.

The various shepherds are traditional and central figures in every Nativity scene. These wooden figurines are handcrafted according to Val Gardena carving traditions; every gesture is shaped with deep devotion. Upon request, these Nativity figurines are lovingly and artfully hand-painted by Master Artisan Sonia, or finished with gold leaf or stain.
Yet these shepherd figurines carry an even deeper meaning: in everyday life, it is the shepherd’s duty to ensure that their sheep do not scatter. This obligation draws a beautiful parallel to us as humans and to our faith—a reminder of how important community, care, and walking the right path together truly are. A genuine symbol of the Christmas message straight from our workshop.
