When Jesus was born to Mary in the stable, a heavenly host of angels followed the GLORIA ANGEL to praise the Newborn with immense joy. The Gloria Angel is usually placed hanging above the stable, holding a banner with the inscription “Gloria in excelsis Deo” (Glory to God in the highest), representing the song of praise chanted by the angels in the fields.
WOOD ART FOR THE ANNUNCIATION:
Angels have always fascinated Nativity scene enthusiasts; indeed, they are recognized in every respect, right from their expressions, as an image of the Sacred. These artistic characteristics, which highlight devotion, are further enhanced by woodcarvers through their sculptures and painting. The colors bring out their immaculate robes and their distinctive wings, donating them nobility and gentleness. Despite their different nuances, these features share one single message: “the announcement of salvation.”
